Card idea combining supplies from different SSS card kits

Hello gorgeous people!

As a subscriber of Simon Says Stamp card kits, I often find myself with lot of left over patterned papers and card stock. Today I decided to challenge myself to use supplies from different card kits with stamps that I already had (not card kit ones). I used patterned papers from SSS March 2015 card kit, stickers + cardstock from SSS Feb 2016 card kit and an older SSS Stamptember stamp set.

Oh Happy Day card

As a starting point, I used this cute little sketch from SugarPea Designs sketch challenge SPDSS43 :

First I die cut all the patterned papers in desired shapes. All these papers came from SSS March 2016 card kit.

  1. For the base rectangle and the Spring paper strip, I used stitched rectangle dies from Simon.
  2. For the vertical large banner also, I used the littlest rectangle die from the same set, and then gave it the banner tail using a pair of scissors.
  3. For the small horizontal banners, I cut it out with scissors. In fact, the “hugs and kisses” banner is actually a sticker from the SSS Feb card kit, I just gave it banner tails on both end. ;-) I also used another small “xoxo” sticker on the other banner.

Next I stamped the oh-happy-day sentiment using one of the stamps from Oh Happy Day Stamptember stamp set. I used Misti and stamped it twice with the same ink to get a shade very close to the patterns on my patterned paper.

Then I cut the two circles using two dies from the Sizzix Framelits Dies. You could also use any concentric circle dies that you have.

Finally I adhered everything in place using some foam squares and some scor tape. As embellishments, I added a few tiny hearts that I has left over. These were die cut using one of the dies from MFT tag builder dienamics dies. I found that their color matched my card base, which I made out of the red cardstock from SSS Feb card kit.

It may feel like I used so many different supplies for this card, but these were all things I had on hand. Next time you start to make a card, try shopping for supplies from your stash first. You will be surprised what you come up with :-)

Supplies List

For your convenience, I am sharing links to the supplies I’ve used for these cards – click on the picture or link to go directly to the product. Instead of linking to the whole card kit, I am linking only to the individual items I have used on this card. I think that way they will be easier to find.

Wherever available, I have used affiliate links, which means when you make a purchase, I receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) which I use to run this blog. I truly appreciate your support!

Happy Crafting, my dears!
