Layered heat embossing using Altenew peony stamps

Layered heat embossing using Altenew peony stamps

Okay, I have a couple confessions:
1. I have been creating lots of cards lately. Just haven’t had the time to put them in blog posts for you. I need more hours in my day!!
2. I am obsessed with Altenew Peony stamp sets. Seriously. Obsessed.

I have couple more cards for you using these same stamp sets. I am going to hide these stamps from myself for a week, so that I can create and share using the newest Simon Says Stamp card kit which arrived at my door a couple days ago. I am sure we haven’t seen the last of these beauties on my space though. I have at least two more ideas to work with them. Okay, enough of my rant.

Today’s cards uses a fun technique that combines heat embossing with layering. In a fun twist, I also created a fun embossed effect without using colored embossing ink. Here is what the cards look like:

On the gold one, each embossed layer was done with Martha Stewart antique gold embossing ink. On the blue one – it’s just regular blue ink, with clear embossing powder. But both have almost identical looks.

To create this card, I stamped all my base layer images using MISTI. I masked the flowers when I wanted some leaves to peep from behind.

Then for the gold one, I simply stamped each layer, except the one that covers entire flower, in Versa Mark clear sticky ink and heat embossed using gold embossing powder. (You can read more about these layered stamp in this post.)

For the blue one, I stamped the layers themselves in blue ink, stamped again on the same spot with Versa Mark and embossed using clear embossing powder. MISTI helped me stamp the delicate layers using Versa Mark and blue ink exactly on top of each other. If these images were not so detailed, may be we could get by without using MISTI. But in this case, MISTI was the way to go.

I am not sure I was able to capture the texture too well on camera, but in real life these flowers look exquisite. For the blue one, I did a bit of oopsie on the main flower, so I created another one from a piece of white cardstock, fussy cut it and mounted it on the main one using foam dots. It does look like I totally meant to do that, right? :-D

I hope you do try something like this. Not the oopsie part, the technique :-) Don’t forget to let me know how it goes.
