Cards using Watercolor Prints by Suzy Plantamura

Hello friends, I can’t believe we are in September already! Time flies!!

As promised, we are getting back into the paper crafting world now and I have two cards to share with you:

But before we look at these cards, let me tell you about some interesting and fun things happening in crafting world

a month long celebration of paper crafting by one of my favorite craft supplies companies – SimonSaysStamp! There will be blog hops and prizes to win!

  • 30-Day-Coloring-Challenge

Kathy from the daily marker is hosting a month long coloring event. This one is 8th such event she has hosted!! (Yes, she is totally incredible!). Go check it out so you can carve out a little creative time every day, polish your coloring skills and may be win prizes along the way, too! How cool is that?!
  • Not wanting to be left behind in this exciting papercrafting month, I am hosting a giveaway here on my blog. Read till the end to know the details. :-)

Alright, back to today’s cards. For both these cards, I used doodled prints by Suzy Plantamura. These are like coloring pages, but fit for an A2 (standard) sized card and they are printed on high quality watercolor paper. These usually come 12 in a set and are all based on a certain theme.

Simon Says Stamp’s May 2017 card kit included 2 of these prints and I used them to make cards for today.

Thinking of you card:

For this one, I started by trimming the watercolor print using largest rectangle from Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles dies. This die set is a staple in my card making supplies.

Then I watercolored the plants using two distress oxide inks – Cracked Pistachio and Worn Lipstick. Both these inks came in SSS Monthly Kits (these are super fun and great value!). Then I added highlights using the fine tip Crayola markers (which also came in SSS monthly card kit). These markers are water soluble, so it was easy to blend in the colors using waterbrush.

I colored the pots using my grey inktense pencil (didn’t find any other grey watercolor handy at that time) and also added shadows using the same grey pencil.

Lastly I adhered sequins on top and mounted the panel on Green Apple card base (yes, cardstock also from one of the SSS kits)

Tip: Sometimes when I am scoring the card base / folding it, it leaves some lines on the edge. I like to cover it up with a strip of washi tape and add a fun element to the card, like I did with this one. Shhh.. No one needs to know that the washi is covering a boo-boo. I am gonna say, I totally meant to do that!

Hello Love card:

For this one, I colored the flamingo with Worn Lipstick distress oxide ink and then added highlights using the red marker from Crayola markers set. I used a waterbrush to blend in the red with the pink.

I used a Studio G watersoluble blue ink to color the water and added highlights with the blue Crayola marker. I also used the same blue marker to add highlights to the heart and ‘hello love’ words.

Then I fussy cut the whole image and inked the edges with black Crayola marker for a finished look.

On my off-white card base I created some clouds by ink blending with Studio G blue ink. To do this, I drew some cloud shapes on a scratch paper and cut them out. I used these as my mask and ink blended starting on the mask and going out to the card base. Moving the mask in different positions helped make these clouds look more random.

Finally I foam mounted the flamingo on top and called this card done.

Simon Says Stamp just released another set of Suzy’s doodled watercolored panels as part of their STAMPtember 2017 release.

I am thinking of adding a set of watercolor paints + waterbrush and giving these as gifts to a couple people who have fall birthdays. Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember release has two fantastic Daniel Smith watercolor sets.

I will do a review of STAMPtember products in the coming days. Stay tuned for that.
