Hello people!! It’s officially Diecember today :-) Just in case you didn’t know, Diecember is a month-long celebration of die cutting at Simon Says Stamp. This month will be filled with new product releases, blog hops, giveaways and more. I will also be sharing lots of fun stuff, so don’t forget to check out this blog and also my social profiles on instagram (@varadasharma) and pinterest (/varadasharma).
Today, I have a fun project to share using a diecember product – Picture Book Santa Cat die. (Curious about the supplies I am using? See the list below for links to exact stamps, inks, die and other supplies. If I cannot find an exact product, I will link to similar ones that will work equally well.)
These picturebook dies are just fantastic. The die cuts out each little part – including the insides of the ear, the eyes, nose and everything. On this one it also cuts out the dark markings on this side of her face. And makes the incision in paper / the mark for her mouth. I cut this completely out of white cardstock and colored each part separately. To have all the pieces stay together and be easier to handle, I drew the outline of this cat on a scrap piece of cardstock and used it to adhered all my pieces on top. I wish there was a coordinating outline die for each of these. :-)
Here are the colors I picked:
- for the face (fur / body): Spectrum Noir GG1, IG5
- for the nose and inside of ears:Spectrum Noir CR1. I also added some Wink of Stella to make it look wet :-)
- for the eyes: I used my Prismacolor .005 black fine line marker for the black and Sakura white gel pen for the white dot.
- for the hat: Spectrum Noir DR4. I also attached some cotton on the rim and a silver pom-pom (cut into half) for the top.
For the background, I used a Canson watercolor paper which I lightly colored with Gansai Tambi colors #62, #63 and #139. I die cut a panel out of this, with Memory Box Wrapped Stitch Rectangles die.
Rest was simple, I used MISTI to stamp my sentiments from Believe in the season stamp set with black archival ink and Simon Says Stamp Hot Lips ink. Lastly I adhered some snowflakes and a couple sequins to deck it up a bit more and adhered this panel to a top folding black card base to call it done.
Hope you like my little Santa cat and do try something similar in your crafting. :-)
