And then one day I got talking to my dear friend Lisa and we decided to have a craft night at our place while the others were out. What fun! Lisa came …

Looks like my little princesses are also getting bitten by the design bug. They did most of the work in this canvas + paper artwork for their room. Even my 3 yr old helped and she was so proud of her achievement! 1. I mixed Acrylic colors red and white to make pink. 2. Diya and Akshu both painted the entire canvas with this color. Of course, we put old newspapers all over the room while they did that :) 3. While the paint was drying, l handed out old magazines and craft punches to both. Diya got a bigger …

Mere Kanha {and a tutorial}

It’s been over a year that I’d been searching for (read pestering Mr. C for) an idol of my Kanha. I wanted him to be playing his flute. I wanted him to have a cow besides him. I wanted an idol whom I can decorate – make jewellery and stuff – just like I will when I’ll actually meet my Kanhaji. That’s the picture I had in my mind. I saw an idol somewhat like that a couple years ago, but for some reason could not take him with me. When I came to Nashville all by myself, thousands of …

Thank-you (hanging paper craft) {Tutorial}

If there’s one thing  I want my kids to learn, even if they do not learn anything else much from me, is – the attitude of gratitude. Today’s craft celebrates the simple act that can fill your heart with joy. The act of saying “Thanks”. My aajji (grandma) was close to her eighties. She would wake up quite early each morning – 5’ish and then work in the kitchen and generally around the house all day long. She would have tea in the kitchen itself, no breakfast. Finally after all her kids and kids’ kids were fed, she would sit …

Ladies Clutch Birthday Card {Tutorial}

One of my very special friends, Shipra, is also a talented crafts lady. Almost all Mondays you’ll find people ooh-ing and aah-ing around her cubicle over some new thing she has created. She has successfully converted an old discarded box into a cute little school bus. An used coffee container from Cafe’ Coffee Day into a pretty flower vase. A couple rectangular baby-apparel boxes into a paper / stationery holder painted like a wall of bricks. You get the point, right? Such a creative person celebrated her birthday on 1st Aug. And I wanted to make a very special card …

Baby girls moments – princess scrapbook

Warning: this is the first time I am undertaking a scrapbooking project, so not sure my process is right. I am just going with what-works-for-me. :) Before making full fledged pages and layouts, I’ve decided to put together various embellishments. Here’s first set of princess attire: All these are made from paper. The dress: I have used thick pink color paper like the one used in greeting cards. (Do you call it cardstock?) It’s a simple evening gown cutout embellished with stones and white paper roses. I used the simple and fun tutorial by Dozi Design for making the roses. Grey and …
