Did you know, this month’s Large Die of the month Kit from Spellbinders is a fun interactive card die that lets you create a pull-out easel card? Yes, yes, yes!! And that’s exactly what I did.

The die itself does everything for you to get the skeleton of the easel card working. I used a script-y patterned paper for my top layer and a normal off-white cardstock for the inside panel (for the pulling out part). The kit also comes with a basic wreath die + several different die sets for all year round projects

1. Eggs and bunnies for Easter
2. Flowers for spring / summer or any occasion really
3. Clover leaves for St Patrick’s day
4. Balloons for birthday
5. Stars for Memorial day / July 4th / patriotic cards or even birthday or graduation cards
6. Hearts for love / valentine cards
7. Foliage and acorns for fall / thanksgiving cards
8. Snowflakes for winter / Christmas
9. A couple squigglies and
10. A sentiment that says ‘HI’

This is just so much value for money at $25 which includes free shipping in US!!! My brain is just flooding with all the things we can do with this one die kit.

Today though I decided to go with the default way of having a Thanksgiving themed easel card with a wreath. I used one of the older dies from Spellbinders to die cut a word ‘Blessed’ instead of using the die from the kit. This word die comes from an older die set called the ‘Fall Botanicals’. I also added a hidden message under the pull out panel using Thankful Heart stamp set.

Here is a step by step of what I did:

1. The pull-out-easel mechanism:
2. Die cut the outer panel by cutting it simultaneously with the largest die and the die that fits in the middle rectangle. I arranged and washi-taped both to my script-y patterned paper at the same time and cut it through. The inner die cuts on three sides and adds scor lines for the stand up part of the easel.
3. Next I cut the inside pull out tab using off-white cardstock.
4. Then I took my gray cardbase, arranged my outermost panel the way I wanted and held them together with washi tape. I took this to my MISTI and stamped a sentiment through the opening, directly on my cardbase. I used Gina K amalgam black ink for this stamping.
5. Next I disconnected the panel from my cardbase and adhered my pull out tab to the end of the inside die cut area and adhered this whole thing to the card base.
6. For the wreath
7. I cut out two of the half circles from brown cardstock and connected them into a full circle. I also made a similar wreath with white cardstock for the backing.
8. For my flowers & leaves I used several cardstock pieces from older Spellbinders card kits, and shaped the petals using a stylus from my tool-in-one
9. For the acorn I cut several of these from brown cardstock and gold cardstock. I used a single one on this wreath that has gold base and brown cap.
10. I also cut out several gold squigglies to tuck in here and there.
11. For the main sentiment, I used a word ‘Blessed’ die cut from some wood patterned paper and the same from gold mirrored cardstock. I can’t find the exact same wood patterned pager I used, which is from Pebbles, but I am linking to some similar ones that will work just as well. The gold one is from Spellbinders card kit. I offset and adhered these two word die cuts together using multi medium matte liquid glue.
12. For assembling the card, I put together the wreath, adding the white wreath circles as backing and adhered the finished wreath to the card front. I made sure to add glue to only the lower half side. The top portion needs to be free for the pull-out-easel mechanism to work.
13. As finishing touches, I added some gems in the flower centers. The die cut pieces that were cut out to be flower centers? I actually used them as confetti and sprinkled them around on the card 😀

I am sure I will be making more cards with this set. Will share more ideas as I make something.
