Why SIX life areas? (And yes, you can adapt them)
When I was creating Six & Three, I went back to my scribbles. I’ve always written things down to offload my thoughts—and I noticed I kept organizing them into boxes. I blame/praise my IT professional brain for why I think in boxes! 🤓 But I noticed that I was returning to the same 6 boxes – over and over, it had to be something. On looking closer I found that these were the life areas that mattered most. And I realized they were common enough to mean something to most people.
These were the areas of life that actually matter for fulfillment
Not just productivity. Not just wellness. But EVERYTHING that makes life feel whole.
The Six Life Areas:
🌱 Self Development – Growth, learning, health (mind, body, spirit)
💕 Relationships – Connection, love, presence with those who matter
💼 Career/Business – Purpose, contribution, meaningful work
💰 Finances – Security, freedom, building abundance
✨ Quality of Life – Experiences, hobbies, joy, what makes life worth living
🤝 Community & Giving – Impact, service, belonging, making a difference
These six cover the essentials of a balanced life.
But here’s the truth: YOU can adapt them.
Want to add more? There’s already a space for 2 additional areas in the planner. 👉🏼 But I urge you to use them with caution. Don’t overwhelm yourself. More categories ≠ better balance.
Want to split one? Absolutely! If “Self Development” feels too broad, split it into Physical Health, Mental Health, and Spiritual Growth. Make it work for YOUR life.
Want to rename one? Do it! If “Quality of Life” means “Adventure & Exploration” for you or maybe “Crafting and Paiting”, call it that.
The framework is a starting point, not a cage.
These six areas are simply a reminder: a fulfilling life requires attention to ALL the things that matter—not just the urgent ones, not just the loud ones, but ALL of them.
Which of these six areas needs your attention this week? 💚
This is part 1 of 5 in our Six & Three deep dive series. Follow along to understand the full framework.
