Spellbinders | Small Die of the month | 5 ways to dress up critter die cuts

Hi guys, it’s 1st of the month and that means lots of new goodies released from Spellbinders clubs! I have my first project to share here with March 2019 Small Die of the month kit club which is full of cuteness – flowers, branches / leaves, carrots, bows and bunnies. Full on Spring themed fun, right? :-)

Here’s my project:

Via this project, let’s look at 5 ways to dress up your critter die cuts

  1. Cut out parts from various colored paper / cardstock like I did here. In our yard we usually see several brown-gray bunnies, so I based my color scheme on that. For outline I used brown cardstock, for the body gray and for ears and nose light pink.
  2. Color – use a coloring medium of your choice to add shading and highlights – alcohol markers like Copic or Spectrum Noir, colored pencils, distress ink crayons or watercolors – anything goes as long as you use appropriate paper to cut the critter out. I used Spectrum Noir markers. I also used Gelly roll pen in white to add highlights to the flowers.
  3. Googly eyes – yes. These are so fun and come in several sizes. You also get some that have eyelashes on them.
  4. Small pom poms or yarn / string for tails. Since this was a bunny, I used a pom pom. For some other critters like cat or dog, I feel yarn will work better. Will have to try that idea and see how it turns out.
  5. Accessorize – if the die set contains shapes for accessories, go for it! This set contains two bows and I gave my bunny a hair bow, making her a girl. You could also use the bow to make a bow tie and make him a boy. You can also use Santa’s hat, or even a purse die would look great with her too.

Hope you give these ideas a try. Let me know which one is your favorite. And when you create cards or projects using these ideas, link them below. Let’s have a linky party. Please help me spread the word (and at the end, I might have a surprise for one of you) :-)

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!
