Same Flowers, New Layout: Soft Gray & White Frame Card with Geraniums

Hello, lovely crafters!

I am back today with another card project featuring our gorgeous ink-blended geraniums! If you caught my last post, you know I’ve been loving this die set. But today, I wanted to change up the layout, proportions, and background elements to show you how a completely different style can emerge from the same beautiful flowers.

For this design, we are stepping into a classic gray, white, and gold color framework that makes those soft pink blooms pop beautifully. Plus, I have a fantastic tip for dipping into those forgotten paper pads!

Stepping Out of the Box: The 4×6 Format

Most of the time, we tend to default straight to the classic A2 size card. However, for this project, I decided to craft a 4×6 top-folding card. I pulled a gorgeous, plain-but-subtly-textured gray cardstock from a 12×12 paper pad in my stash (from the Michaels Recollections line).

If you are like me and have a few of those large paper pads sitting around, cutting them down into custom card bases like this 4×6 is an incredible way to utilize them. It instantly gives your card a high-end, custom look!

Framing the Details

To dress up that solid gray canvas, I leaned heavily on some beautiful frame die-cuts, also from Michaels (Recollections). Both the frames came from the same Ornate Frames set (great price point oo) and I layered multiples on top for some extra dimension.

  • The Outer Border: This intricate, white scroll frame tracks the outer edges of the card perfectly. Sometimes finding frames that match a 4×6 layout can be tricky, but this one fits the proportions beautifully, leaving just a peek of the gray cardstock showing around the margin.
  • The Central Oval Frame: An ornate, filigree oval acts as the perfect anchor right in the center, giving our floral bouquet a crisp, elegant home.

Arranging the Bouquet & Sentiment

Once again, I utilized the Papertrey Ink Geraniums set, ink-blended in those radiant pink and fresh green tones. Arranging them off-center against that white filigree oval gives the design a wonderfully classic, balanced look.

For the greeting, I chose a beautiful cursive “Congrats” die cut from Spellbinders, cut from radiant gold metallic cardstock. Placing it right across the base of the stems pulls the entire composition together. To finish it off, I added a cascade of shifting iridescent gems from Pinkfresh Studio catching the light around the top curve of the oval.

I absolutely love how this combination turned out—the frame sizes worked out perfectly for the 4×6 space!

I hope this inspires you to look at your 12×12 paper pads a little differently and try a new size format on your next project.

Until next time, happy crafting!
