Hello, crafty friends!

I am so excited to be back in the craft room today sharing a fun little design experiment! If you’ve been following my creative journey, you know how much I love pulling out older supplies and mixing and matching them to create something fresh. Today, we are stash-busting and talking all about visual balance and floral placement.

I created two different cards using the exact same mix of supplies, but by simply changing the layout and the size of the card base, the final results have completely different energies! I combined some gorgeous floral dies from Simon Says Stamp, a few leafy bits from a vintage May/June 2019 Spellbinders Card Kit, and a lovely flower stem I found on Amazon. Let’s break down the design process!

Step 1: The Widespread Layout (The A2 Base) I started with a classic A2 sized card featuring a beautifully textured white background and a delicate teardrop pinpoint frame panel. I arranged the crisp white and purple blooms around the edges, framing a corner and placed a sweet “sending a paper hug” sentiment on the diagonal corner on this panel. While I loved the soothing color scheme and the texture contrast, the leaves felt just a bit too widespread, and the placement of these leaves didn’t quite flow the way I wanted. Sometimes, a layout just doesn’t click fully, and that is perfectly okay!

Step 2: The Bouquet Shift (The 4×6 Base) To fix the visual flow, I decided to pivot! For the second card, I sized up to a 4×6 layout with a dark, grounding card base to make those white and purple petals really pop. Instead of spreading the flowers around the perimeter, I clustered them closely together into a lush, grounded bouquet. This instantly created a stronger focal point and much better visual weight above the “Birthday WISHES” sentiment.

Step 3: The Finishing Touches (To Bow or Not to Bow?) The bouquet layout feels so incredibly balanced, but it left me with a fun design dilemma. I debated adding a little twine or paper bow right at the base of the flower stems to tie it all together, but I also love the clean, simple lines just as they are!
